It's hard to think of the thing you love doing as a career when you're a creative.

You get paid whenever someone hires you and think "I am making money doing what I love, this is amazing!"

But then you are stuck thinking about how to scale the business to something that can be a steady stream of income.

Back in 2017 I started an online e-commerce business reselling software for audio engineers.

I was learning as I went and it was pretty easy to maintain at the beginning.

I’d spend hours searching on YouTube and Google on how to do certain tasks.

Then the Holiday hit and I got swamped as a one-man shop.

Everything broke on my website and I was stressed out and in over my head.

I couldn’t hire anyone to help because I was winging it on my own and figuring it out as I went.

It was a recipe for disaster and the disaster entrée had been served.

Eventually, I let the business die quietly.

I realized that the skills required to maintain and grow the business were skills I didn’t have.

I wish years ago I would have been recommended the book E-Myth by Michael E. Gerber.

I was suffering from issues of being a technician in my business, a topic covered in great detail in the book.

To take a creative business from a hobby to a full-time business that can be scaled and employ other people takes a facet of skills that creatives just don’t know.

Most people run themselves to the ground and close up shop as I did.
